E-Commerce Shipping Label Printing Troubleshooting Guide
Quick diagnostic solutions for blank PDF outputs, cut barcodes, thermal print darkness issues, misalignment, and batch processing errors.
Common Thermal Printing Issues & Step-by-Step Fixes
| Symptom | Root Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Cut off barcode edges or missing address text | Crop bounding box was set too tight, or thermal roll mechanical alignment shifted. | In CropLabel, increase the Safe Margin control to 4mm – 5mm and re-download. Ensure your thermal roll guide clips are snug against the roll. |
| Printer feeds an extra blank label after every print | The printer gap sensor is reading incorrect page height or gap threshold. | Run the gap sensor auto-calibration sequence for your printer model. In printer driver settings, verify paper size is set to exactly 100mm × 150mm (4×6 in). |
| Faint, faded, or patchy barcodes that won't scan | Printhead darkness is set too low, print speed is too fast, or thermal head has residue. | Increase Print Darkness to 11 – 13 in driver settings. Reduce Print Speed to 3.5 ips. Clean the ceramic printhead using an isopropyl alcohol wipe. |
| Barcodes look pixelated, dotted, or fuzzy | Printer driver dithering is enabled, or PDF was converted to low-resolution raster image. | Set driver Dithering / Halftoning to “None”. CropLabel outputs 100% vector-sharp PDFs that do not degrade. |
| Thermal printer prints completely blank labels | Label roll is loaded upside down (thermal coating is on the wrong side), or non-thermal paper is loaded. | Scratch the label surface quickly with a fingernail. If a black line appears, the paper is direct thermal. Flip the roll so the chemically coated side faces the thermal printhead. |
